About
Tools that mind their own business
Methodwise makes capable tools for everyday UK money and life admin.
Most apps for everyday money admin are one of three things: bloated, locked behind a monthly subscription, or harvesting your data. Working out your take-home pay shouldn't need an account. A budget shouldn't expire when you stop paying. And your numbers are nobody's business but yours.
So Methodwise makes the opposite kind of tool. Each one opens in your browser, keeps everything on your device, and is yours the moment you buy it. There's no sign-up, no cloud, and no one watching over your shoulder. Open it, do the thing, get on with your day.
Every tool is a single file built to last. No frameworks, no trackers, no surprise changes. Once it's on your computer it keeps working, online or off, for as long as you want it.
How guides and calculators are maintained
Methodwise is an independent UK studio created and maintained by Tom. Guides start with the practical question a reader needs to answer, and rules, rates and factual claims are checked against the official or primary sources linked on the page.
Calculators are tested with documented examples and edge cases before changes are published. Dated pages state the tax year or rate period they cover, and are reviewed when the underlying source rules or related Methodwise tools change.
AI-assisted tools are used during research, drafting, design and coding. Published claims are checked against their sources and the finished pages are tested before release. The guides and calculators provide general planning information, not personalised financial, tax or legal advice.
What Methodwise believes
A few firm rules
Your data is yours
Everything runs in your browser and stays on your device. There's no server for it to go to.
One price, no renewals
You buy a tool once and keep it. No subscriptions, no upsells, no expiry.
Out of your way on purpose
Plain language, no clutter, no nagging. The tool does its job and stays out of the way.
Built for the UK
Real HMRC tax years, £ everywhere, and rules that actually match where you live.
Works offline
Once a tool is open it needs no connection. Use it on the train, on a plane, anywhere.
Made to last
A single file, no dependencies. It keeps working long after the trend has moved on.
Built to last, yours to keep
Methodwise tools are sold on Etsy, so buying one happens somewhere you already know and trust. Each is yours to keep, with no subscription and no account.
