One list, used three ways

Budget it, buy it and tick it off

Every item carries its planned cost, actual price, priority, timing and source, so the budget and checklist never become two separate records.

Starter list

Begin with newborn essentials

Add the curated UK list at budget, mid-range or premium starting prices, with an option to include must-haves only.

Budget

Compare planned and actual spending

See the total budget, amount spent, what remains to buy and the position for every category.

Checklist

Track what is ready

Group items by before-birth or first-year timing and filter the list to must-haves when needed.

Due-date runway

Calculate the monthly amount needed

Compare the baby fund and monthly saving with everything still to buy before the due date.

Used and gifted

Record money saved

Mark second-hand and gifted items and compare the actual amount with the new-price plan.

Summary

Print the plan and shopping list

Create a print-ready summary of the totals, savings runway, category split and items left to buy.

Readiness without a second list

Know what is missing and when it is needed

The checklist reads the same items as the budget, with must-haves counted separately so optional purchases do not make the readiness figure look worse.

  • Before-birth and first-year groups
  • Must-have or nice-to-have priority
  • Bought items move down automatically
  • Planned price before purchase and actual price afterwards
  • Edit any item directly from the checklist

The savings runway

Connect the shopping list to the due date

The planner compares what remains with the money already set aside and the saving planned for each remaining month.

  • Amount still to buy at planned prices
  • Baby fund available now
  • Monthly saving through the due date
  • Shortfall or amount left over
  • Required monthly saving when the current plan falls short
  • Separate before-birth and first-year amounts

Private by design

Your dates, purchases and savings stay on your device

The planner runs locally in your browser. It has no account, cloud database or analytics, and it does not upload baby, budget or purchase details.

It does not fetch live retailer prices or create a public gift registry. Export a JSON backup when you want to move or preserve the plan.

Frequently asked

Before you buy

Which computers and browsers does it work on?

It works on Windows, Mac and Linux computers in a modern version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox.

Where do the starter prices come from?

They are editable UK starting points in budget, mid-range and premium tiers. Replace them with the products and prices relevant to you.

Can I record second-hand items and gifts?

Yes. Each bought item can be marked as new, second-hand or gifted, with the amount saved compared with the planned new price.

Does it calculate maternity pay or childcare funding?

No. Those calculations sit in the separate Maternity & Parental Pay Calculator and Childcare Cost & Funding Planner.

Can friends or family see a gift registry?

No. This is a private personal planner rather than a shared registry. The data stays in the local browser file.

What is included in the download?

The single-file UK New Baby Cost Planner app, a quick-start guide, and licence and support details. Etsy delivers the download after purchase.
